Pittsburgh High School Championship-Winning Coach Dies
One of Pittsburgh's most celebrated high school football coaches has died. Get the details here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Allderdice teacher and football coach Jerry Haslett, who won three City League championships in his 15 seasons guiding the team, has died. He was 59.
Pittsburgh Public Schools announced his death on Thursday. A cause was not disclosed.
"Coach Haslett was known for his hard work, quick wit and heart of gold," a district release stated.

"He always put students first and developed long-lasting relationships with students and peers. His impact stretched far beyond their time in high school, with many joining him as peers and assistant coaches on the football team."
Haslett joined Allderdice as a business teacher from Oliver High School in 2007. He took over as head football coach in 2009 and led the team to its first City League title in 50 years in 2017.

Allderdice also won City League championships in 2018 and 2021.

"Jerry had many talents, serving as the school's activities and athletics director," the district release stated.
"He planned homecoming dances and football plays, always doing what it took to make things special for students. Mr. Haslett leaves a lasting mark on our hearts and minds, and his memory will live on through the students he served."
In-person or virtual student assistance providers will be made available to students needing support, the district stated. Details on how to obtain the support will be shared with families.
Funeral arrangements were not immediately available on Thursday.
