Pittsburgh Hospital Among Nation's Best: U.S. News
Only one Pittsburgh hospital was ranked among the top 20 in the nation by U.S. News
U.S. News & World Report ranked UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Hospital among the best hospitals in the country in its annual Best Hospital Honor Roll released Tuesday. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside was ranked 15th on the list.
Nationally, UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside was ranked for excellence in 11 specialty areas and is among the top 10 hospitals in cancer (7th) and gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery (8th). Other ranked specialties include: cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear nose and throat; geriatrics; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopaedics; pulmonology; rehabilitation; and urology.
“National rankings are the byproduct of our dedicated health care professionals who care for their patients with clinical skill and unwavering compassion,” Leslie C. Davis, senior vice president of UPMC and executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Health Services Division, said in a statement. “To be recognized as the best hospital in Pennsylvania is a testament to our employees who work tirelessly every day to ensure patients and families receive the best and safest possible care.”

University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian, Philadelphia, tied for 18th with the Mayo Clinic-Phoenix.
U.S. News analyzed more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide based on a variety of factors, including hospital volume, patient safety and outcomes, as well as responses from tens of thousands of physicians. This year marks UPMC’s 20th year for inclusion, improving
its ranking in six clinical specialties compared to last year.
