Here are the top stories in Pittsburgh today:
1) A Tuesday arrest in Braddock ending the search for a man featured on WPXI's 'Pittsburgh's Most Wanted' last month. Christopher Schrock, 28, was placed on the list after failing to appear at a scheduled court hearing back in June 2020 based on drug, firearm and resisting arrest charges stemming from a traffic stop in McKeesport in 2018. This past weekend, law enforcement learned that Schrock was squatting in an abandoned apartment on Kirkpatrick Street in Braddock. When they arrived on-scene, he tried to exit the apartment three different ways before he was taken into custody without further incident. "Schrock is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail."
2) The Governor is getting involved to remedy the intense teaching shortage that Pittsburgh has been experiencing. Josh Shapiro was joined by city, state and federal leaders at a Pittsburgh school on Tuesday to discuss a proposal to help out with making the profession of teaching more attractive. "In an effort to recruit more people to the profession, Shapiro's proposed budget includes a tax credit of up to $2,500 annually for three years for new teachers." In addition, Shapiro's new budget would further invest more than $1 billion for schools, including funding for universal free breakfasts and funding for mental health counselors and services."Every person, especially our children, should have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed," Shapiro said. "And it starts in our public schools."
3) Open Field is giving refugee and immigrant youth living in Pittsburgh the chance to score—soccer goals, and in life. The idea for the local non-profit came from Forzano's travels to Camaroon, and seeing the impact that the game had on players. "When I learned how the game was being used to impact health and promote gender equity, education and the development of young people, I knew it was something we could bring here," he said. He saw a need for youth sports and activities that were affordable and accessible, and 'Open Field' was created. Any youth member is welcome to join in the activities, which typically occur in West End and the North Side.

4) Peter Gabriel, Genesis co-founder, has added a stop in Pittsburgh to his massive upcoming tour. The September 23 show at PPG Paints Arena in the 'Steel City' is one of 13 recent additions. Prior to touring North America, Gabriel will play nearly two dozen shows in Europe. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m., though fans had access to a presale starting on Tuesday. "A press release says Gabriel will play new material from his forthcoming album i/o as well as hits and fan favorites."
5) A 76-year-old woman with dementia and a 1-year-old child have been reported missing to local police. The pair was last seen on Oak Street. Barbara English, the adult woman, was last seen wearing a black coat and black pants. She has dark hair with highlights. Mara Robinson, the child, was in black pants, a red shirt and had a pink blanket. "Police did not immediately say what the relationship between the two is, but asked if anyone sees them to call the police at 412-461-3125 or dial 911."
