Pittsburgh Area Under Flood Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a multi-day flood advisory for the Pittsburgh area.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Continued rain and snow melt caused by rising temperatures has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory for the Pittsburgh area until early Sunday morning.
The advisory is in effect for the Ohio River in Pittsburgh. The river stage was at 16.7 feet as of 2 p.m. on Thursday.
But the river is expected to rise to a crest of 19.5 feet, which is problematic. At 18 feet, water begins to flow onto the Monongahela Parking Wharf in Downtown Pittsburgh. At 19 feet, water begins to flow onto the North Shore riverwalk. At 19.5 feet, the parking wharf is completely flooded.

If more rain falls than anticipated, the situation gets worse. At 20 feet, water is up to one foot deep in the lower areas of the riverwalk.
