A similar situation occurred two weeks ago when another alligator was captured near Southside Riverfront Park. Bureau of Police Zone 6 Commander Mike Pilyih, who responded to the Beechview incident, said both alligators likely were purchased by people who raised them until they got too large to care for and then released them into the wild.
