Pittsburgh Police Officer Shot: Latest Details
The officer was wounded and a suspect killed in the Thursday night incident.
PITTSBURGH, PA -Gunfire exchanged during a traffic stop on a busy North Side street Thursday evening left a Pittsburgh police officer wounded and a suspected shooter dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the dead man as Elijah Jamal Brewer, 25, of Pittsburgh.
Brewer was a passenger in a car stopped by police at the intersection of East Ohio Street and Madison Avenue near the entrance to Route 28 around 7 p.m. Brewer opened fire and shot the unidentified officer in the hip and was killed by return gunfire, Pittsburgh public safety officials said.
The driver of the car fled on foot but was apprehended.

Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said Thursday evening that the officer was and was being visited by family, Police Chief Scott Schubert and Mayor Bill Peduto.
Pittsburgh public safety officials have not detailed the reason for the traffic stop, but multiple reports say it was related to a robbery at the Boost Mobile wireless phone store on East Ohio Street was robbed.

Hissrich said Allegheny County police will investigate the incident. Additional information is expected to be released Friday.
