Pittsburgh At Risk For Wildfires, Then Severe Storms

The National Weather Service has issued alerts for potentially hazardous weather in Pittsburgh Friday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Very dry conditions potentially could cause wildfires in Western Pennsylvania on Friday, but that risk could end with possible severe storms later in the day.

The National Weather Service says there is an elevated risk of wildfire spread. That's because minimum relative humidity values will range from 25 to 30 percent and there will be sustained wind gusts of 10 to 25 mph.

The weather service advises people to use caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire could spread rapidly.
