Pittsburgh Steelers Two-Time Winning Super Bowl Player Dies

A key player on two Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl winning teams has died.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Andy Russell, a linebacker who was an essential component of two Super Bowl winning teams, has died. He was 82.

Russell, an inaugural member of the Steelers Hall of Honor in 2017, was an integral part of the teams that won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1974 and 1975.

Russell played in 168 consecutive games during his NFL career with the Steelers. A No. 16 draft pick from Missouri, Russell played in seven Pro Bowls and was voted team MVP in 1971.

Russell began his Steelers career in 1963, then took off two years for military service. He returned to the team in 1966 and played for the team for another decade before retiring.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately announced.
