Pittsburgh Weather: High Winds Continue, Flooding Possible

PITTSBURGH, PA — The wild weather continues. Flooding is possible in Pittsburgh Wednesday, and the high winds will continue for much of the day.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Pittsburgh metro area until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible.
According to the weather service, the peak wind gust yesterday in Pittsburgh was 49 mph.

Get used to the windy conditions for awhile. A strong low pressure system will pose additional wind concerns late Friday through Saturday.
Also, a flood advisory has been issued for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh due to runoff from recent rainfall. The advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. on Thursday.

At 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the river level was 16.7 feet. The river is expected to crest at 18 feet, which is high enough to trigger flooding on the Monongahela Wharf.
The strong cold front is expected to bring sharply colder temperatures over the weekend that will linger well into next week.
