PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County plans to deploy 34 salt trucks equipped with plows when snow from a late-winter storm begins falling Friday evening. Accumulations are expected to be between 3 and 6 inches before the region's winter weather advisory expires at noon on Saturday.

County officials said they cant pre-treat road because the rain anticipated before the snow would wash away any salt that was placed.

Depending on traffic, it takes county salt truck drivers about one to two hours to complete their routes and another hour to return to the nearest maintenance garage, reload with salt, and restart their routes. Snow accumulations on roadways are inevitable under such circumstances, county officials said.
