Pittsburgh's Best Cheap Eats
These places are inexpensive but still get high marks for their food.

PITTSBURGH, PA - With holiday credit card bills rolling in for most people, January is a month in which many folks try to live frugally. It’s generally not a time to treat yourself to gourmet dining, but you still need to eat.
With that thought in mind, what are the best places to dine inexpensively around town? For the answer, we turned to Yelp, whose users seldom are shy about sharing their opinions. Is there a place they missed? If so, feel free to mention it in the comments section below.
1. Las Palmas, 326 Atwood St., Oakland
“These are my favorite authentic tacos in Pittsburgh,” one reviewer wrote. “$2.50 per huge taco. Two are plenty, but I get three when I am really hungry.”

2. The Pub Chip Shop, 1830 East Carson St., South Side
Raved this reviewer: “We got the chicken and chips for my daughter. For five bucks, you get 3 huge chicken strips and a ton of fries. They were perfectly cooked.”
3. Mount Everest Sushi, 128 Oakland Ave., Oakland
“The salmon poke bowl was filling, fresh, and affordable,” this Yelpster wrote. “The flavors worked great together and all of the components were dressed well.”

4. Gaucho Parrilla Argentina, 1601 Penn Ave., Strip District
High praise from this reviewer: We were so impressed that we recently reached out to the restaurant staff to help us with our family Christmas Day meal planning. We wanted to ’mix things up a bit’ for this German/Polish family by switching the dinner to a traditional New Mexican theme.”
5. Noodlehead, 242 S. Highland Ave., Shadyside
“Great food. Great ambience! Pretty cheap, too,” this reviewer opined. “Our favorite by far is there steamed pork buns and Chiang Mai curry.”
