PITTSBURGH, PA — Sandcastle apparently made quite a splash with U.S. News & World Report reviewers. The website has named the watery West Homestead attraction one of the nation's top 36 water parks for 2023.

The website thoroughly reviewed numerous water parks across the country and gave high marks to Sandcastle as a place to stay cool on a hot summer day.

"This wooded Pittsburgh oasis is a nostalgic treat," the U.S News report stated.

"Though the main attraction of this former railroad yard is its 16 water slides, the property also features a wave pool, a lazy river, a pool with a mushroom-shaped waterfall and shallow play areas for young ones."

"Or, to get your heart pumping, try the new free-fall water slide Bombs Away, which opened in 2022. Expect an ideal place for a mix of lounging and heart-pumping fun – plus noshing on an enormous Philly cheesesteak or the park's Knockout Nachos while you're at it."

Palace Entertainment, which owns Sandcastle and its nearby sister amusement park Kennywood, last year gave the park a multi-million dollar upgrade.

Three other Pennsylvania water parks made the U.S. News list.
