Plans Advance For Major New Pgh. Concert Venue, Parking Garage

The development would be built on the old Civic Arena site.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Plans are advancing for a new $76.5 million development on the old Civic Arena site that would include a concert venue, parking garage and a public safety facility. The city planning commission will be briefed Tuesday on the project.

The garage and entertainment building also will have nearly 9,000 square feet of commercial space and 1,200 square feet of rent-free incubator space on the ground floor.

The 80,000 square foot concert venue will have its primary entrances at the corner of Logan Street and Wylie Avenue. In design renderings in planning commission documents, its design is focused on connectivity to the legacy of live music along Wylie Avenue in the Historic Hill District.

The concert hall will be in direct competition for acts with Stage AE, the 12-year-old concert venue located on the North Shore. The venue, located across the street from Acrisure Stadium, has 22,000 square feet of indoor capacity and 30,000 square feet on the outdoor lawn.

Developers of the new facility believe it will help establish Logan Street as festival area between the building and the nearby PPG Paints Arena full of dining and beverage options, entertainment and a food hall.

If the planning commission approves the development, the project would go to city council for its approval before construction could begin.
