Here are the top stories in Pittsburgh today:

1) One police officer has passed away and another is suffering from injuries sustained during a shooting in McKeesport yesterday. The on-duty officers responded to a domestic-related disturbance call in the 1400 block of Wilson Street around noon. They were warned that the call was regarding a mental health situation, and the perpetrator may be armed. "The officers attempted to speak with the subject, and he walked away without speaking with officers," Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns said. When the officers located him again, the suspect suddenly produced a handgun and shot the two officers. "One of the officers was taken to UPMC McKeesport, where he was pronounced dead, while the second officer was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital."

2) A Listeria outbreak leading to the recall of 400 products could impact Pittsburgh residents. Items sold by Fresh Ideation Food Group of Baltimore such as egg and cheddar muffins, bacon, tuna, chicken sandwiches and fruit cups between Jan. 24-30 have been recalled because they could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold in retail locations and vending machine in various states including Pennsylvania.

3) Allegheny County police officers are enhancing their presence in Downtown Pittsburgh with a new patrol schedule amidst escalating safety concerns. "We are coordinating with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and Port Authority Police. Uniformed officers in marked patrol cars will be working in the central business district. The times and number of officers will vary," county police Superintendent Christopher Kearns said. The enhanced security measures are being put in place to increase safety and limit unruly behavior, as well as address the increasing fear that crime downtown could drive away office or residential tenants, or stop people from visiting to eat, attend shows, or shop.

4) The East Palestine, Ohio train derailment that occurred on Friday and led to an explosion and ongoing fire will not impact Pittsburgh's air quality. "Air quality monitors have shown little to no effect in the derailment aftermath in Ohio, officials said Monday." The wreck, which occurred about 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, has been closely monitored for harmful aftermath impacts related to fumes and wreckage debris. Allegheny County's website lists the most recent air quality rating as 'fine particulate matter.' That rating is within the "good" air quality index.
