Popular Pittsburgh Brewpub Abruptly Closes

A Pittsburgh-area brewery that recently announced expansion plans has instead decided to close permanently.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — A popular Pittsburgh brewpub that recently announced expansion plans instead will shut down completely.

Necromancer Brewing Co. announced its closing on social media, a week after stating a liquor license issue had forced its temporary closure.

"After taking time to pause this past week and evaluate our future, we’ve come to the difficult decision to close our doors," an Instagram post stated.

"We’re so proud of our team and all they’ve accomplished these past nearly three years. Our closure is no reflection of the quality of their work, their dedication, or the blood, sweat, and tears put into Necromancer. It’s an unfortunate financial decision, and one we do not make lightly. Between operating costs that continue to rise, and the overall state of the industry - there isn’t much room for error."

Necromancer announced last year that it had acquired the former Hough's bar in Greenfield and planned to rechristen it The Midnight Whistler. Those plans obviously will not come to fruition.

The brewery will be open for two last days on Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m.-10 p.m.
