Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Is Shut Down

The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered the closure of a well-known Pittsburgh restaurant.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has shut down Lucy's Banh Mi on Penn Avenue in the Strip District for multiple health violations.

A recent inspection found that food preparation for cooking chicken and preparing vegetables is occurring in a residential home. That's no good.

So, there's more. A flat of raw eggs on top of a residential style cooler was measured at at 89 degrees. The appropriate temperature is 41 degrees.

Now this: An employee was seen handling money with gloves and then preparing food without hand washing or changing gloves.

Another employee arrived during the inspection to prepare food but did not wash their hands.

Cigarettes and a lighter were found next to an air fryer.

Still more: Equipment including stored knives, rice cooker, coolers, and cutting boards had accumulated grease.

Oh, and the place was operating without a valid health permit.

There is no word on when, or if, the restaurant will reopen.
