Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Slapped With Consumer Alert

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Dagu Rice Noodle on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill.

A recent inspection found live crawling insects, possibly grain weevils, in and on 112 20-kilogram bags of rice.

There was an active infestation of crawling insects in the basement. Fruit flies, too numerous to count, were observed on and flying around a wet rag on the top of a large pot in the basement.

The floor drain in the basement had numerous weevils and drain flies. Food residue was observed in the drain.

An electric ban saw, not for food, was observed with old meat and bone pieces on it.

An employee in the basement completing various tasks -- including food preparation -- did not wash their hands during the time the inspector was present in the basement.

The restaurant remains open while the alert is in place.
