Record-Setting PA Turnpike Traffic Expected During Holidays
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission predicts the turnpike will be crowded during the holiday period.
ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA - A record-setting 6.6 million travelers are expected to travel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between now and Jan. 1. The busiest travel days are expected to be Dec. 23 and Dec. 27, according to turnpike commission officials.
Safety and maintenance patrols will be increased during the holiday period, but motorists are advised to stay alert and be prepared for any traffic disruptions.
“We have added resources to address any traffic and safety concerns due to the increased holiday traffic,” Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said in a statement. "We are prepared, and our goal is to provide our customers the best travel experience possible."

Compton encouraged travelers to use the turnpike commission's real-time traffic and roadway conditions online and allowing plenty of time to navigate to and from holiday destinations. He also advised motorists to consider traveling during less busy times.
Unsurprisingly, the turnpike commission predicts the lightest travel days during the holiday period will be Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
