PITTSBURGH, PA — Rite Aid is closing nearly three dozen additional locations nationwide after announcing the closure last month of more than 150 stores. Two of the 32 additional stores are in Pittsburgh.

One is the chain's Downtown location on Smithfield Street. The other is the Hazelwood store on Second Avenue.

The additional closures were disclosed in a recent court filing as the Philadelphia-based Rite Aid grapples with a Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filing last month.

As part of its financial reorganization plan, the company said in a statement that it plans to accelerate its "footprint optimization plan."

Rite Aid did not indicate precisely how many of its stores would close under the plan, but previous reports indicated the company would shutter as many of 500 of its 2,100 locations in 17 states.
