Road Restrictions Lifted On Heavily Traveled Pittsburgh Road

Allegheny County said its construction and lane closures of this main thoroughfare have ended, though a separate water project remains.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced that its work on Browns Hill Road between Beechwood Boulevard/Hazelwood Avenue and the Homestead Grays Bridge in Pittsburgh has ended, along with the periodic lane closures tied to the project.

The county said the closures began on Aug. 18, 2025.

According to the department, the work required extensive concrete roadway and joint repairs, drainage improvements, curb replacement and the installation of pavement markings. The project affected a heavily traveled stretch of road that is used by more than 40,000 drivers daily.

The county identified A. Folino Construction of Oakmont as the primary construction contractor. According to the announcement, the Browns Hill Road work was part of a $6.3 million contract that also included work on 10 other roads.

The end of the county lane closures does not mean all traffic restrictions in the area are over. The announcement said Pittsburgh Water implemented a lane closure on Browns Hill Road on March 9 as part of a Browns Hill Road Sewer Pump Station replacement project, and that closure remains active.

Public Works said it is not involved with the Pittsburgh Water project. The department did not provide a timeline for when that separate lane closure will end.

For drivers who use Browns Hill Road each day, the county announcement means the periodic restrictions connected to the county repair project are no longer in place. The remaining closure on the road is tied to utility work, not the county roadway contract.

The county announcement did not include additional details about future work on this stretch beyond noting that its portion of the project has been completed. It also did not list any ceremony or reopening event.

Browns Hill Road serves as a major route in Pittsburgh, and the county's announcement marks the end of a construction phase that included road surface, drainage and curb work on a corridor with heavy daily traffic.
