Sinkhole Swallows Bus In Downtown Pittsburgh
The incident occurred during the Monday morning rush hour.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Part of a Port Authority bus disappeared into a sinkhole near the intersection of Penn Avenue and 10th Street, Downtown, disrupting the morning rush hour. The bus driver and lone female passenger were able to get out of the vehicle; the woman was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said the hole is between 75 to 100 feet and 20 feet deep. Complicating efforts to remove the bus is that it's sitting on two power lines and also is near several gas lines.
Two cranes will be used to lift the bus out of the hole, Hissrich said.
