PITTSBURGH, PA — In the aftermath of Monday's severe storms, Duquesne Light is warning that power to all Southwestern Pennsylvania customers might not be fully restored until Sunday. There's also a chance that not all customers will have service until next week.

The news comes as the Pittsburgh area is gripped by an intense heat wave expected to last at least through the weekend.

"The estimated time of restoration for all customers is 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, with many customers expected to be restored sooner," the region's largest electricity provider stated in a news release Tuesday.

"Customers who remain without power should consider alternate arrangements to stay cool and safe — especially during this historic heat wave. With the potential for more storms and heat-related issues this week, the estimated time of restoration could move into next week."

More than 90,000 Duquesne Light customers were without power on Monday after the storms swept through the area. More than 8,700 households still were without service as of Wednesday morning, according to the utility's outage web page.
