Southwestern Pennsylvania Coronavirus Deaths Rise Signficantly
Here are the latest coronavirus case statistics for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Coronavirus has now claimed the lives 0f 50 people in Allegheny County and the overall number of deaths in southwestern Pennsylvania increased significantly between Saturday and Sunday. In Allegheny County, the fatalities were up from 47 on Saturday and 43 on Friday.
The number of confirmed or probable coronavirus cases in Allegheny County stood at 1,035 as of 11 a.m. Sunday. That's up from 1,009 on Saturday and 947 on Friday.
One hundred and eighty people people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 178 on Saturday and 176 on Friday.

With 280 confirmed cases in Westmoreland County, 278 in Beaver County, 160 in Butler County and 79 in Washington County, that brings the total number of cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 1,882 as of Sunday. That up from 1,668 on Saturday and 1,582 on Friday.
According to the state Department of Health, there have now been been 101 coronavirus deaths thus far in the five-county region: Fifty in Allegheny County, 31 in Beaver County, 13 in Westmoreland County, five in Butler County and two in Washington County. That's up from 81 on Saturday and 76 on Friday.

The significant spike in deaths between Saturday and Sunday can be traced to Beaver County, where the number of reported deaths increased from 15 to 31.

According to state Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the ninth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh, Luzerene, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties.
All Pennsylvania counties remain under a stay-at-home order through at least April 30. Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered schools closed through the remainder of the academic year, and all non-life-sustaining businesses are closed indefinitely.
