Steelers Begin Offseason By Signing New Quarterback
The Steelers now have at least one quarterback under contract for the 2025 season.
PITTSBURGH, PA — With the contracts of all three of its current quarterbacks on the roster expiring, the Steelers on Tuesday signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson to a reserve/futures contract.
The move was announced by Thompson's agency, three days after the Steelers were eliminated from the NFL playoffs in a disheartening 28-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Thompson, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the Dolphins in 2022. Per NBC Sports, he has 10 regular-season appearances, three regular-season starts, and one playoff start, from 2022 at Buffalo.

The signing was announced after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin did not commit to bringing back any of the team's current three quarterbacks - Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen - in his season-ending news conference Tuesday.
Regarding Wilson and Fields, Tomlin said, "We are certainly open to considering those guys, but we have a lot of work ahead of us."
