Steelers Quarterback Dwayne Haskins' Death Prompts New Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleges a conspiracy existed to blackmail and rob Haskins the night he died.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A lawsuit filed against multiple parties alleges that Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was drugged the night he died as part of an alleged blackmail and robbery conspiracy.

The lawsuit, filed last month Broward County, Florida, lists four individuals, two restaurants, a golf driving range and a hotel among the defendants in the case.

Haskins, died on April 9, 2022 after being struck by a dump truck on a Florida highway. According to a Broward County Medical Examiner's Office report, Haskins was on foot on the road after his rental car ran out of gas.

The report indicated Haskins, 24, drank heavily and ingested katamine in the hours before his death. At the time of the fatal accident, he had a blood alcohol content level of .24.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and NFL.com on Monday tweeted a release from attorney Rick Ellsley, who is representing Haskins' widow.

Haskins played college football at Ohio State, where he threw 50 touchdown passes and finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 2018. A former first-round draft choice of the Washington Commanders, he signed with the Steelers after the Commanders released him.
