Steelers Super Bowl-Winning Player Dies

A Steelers player who helped the team win two Super Bowls has passed away.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Sidney Thornton, a running back who helped the Steelers win two Super Bowl championships during their dynasty years in the 1970s, has died. He was 68.

No cause of death was revealed.

Thornton was a second-round draft choice in 1977. He was a valuable member of the Steelers championship teams in 1979 and 1980.

Thornton's entire six-year career was spent with the Steelers. He had 1,512 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 515 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns.

The Steelers paid tribute to Thornton on Twitter.

Thornton's death comes barely a month after the death of another former Steelers running back - Hall of Famer Franco Harris.
