Terminally Ill Teen Who Wanted Your Christmas Cards Dies
Maddox Hyde received more than 100,000 cards and packages for what would be his last holiday season.

PITTSBURGH, PA - A terminally ill teen whose holiday spirits were brightened by more than 100,000 Christmas cards from around the globe has died. Maddox Hyde, 14, of DuBois, Clearfield County, passed away on Wednesday.
Maddox had been treated at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for neuroblastoma. He had battled cancer for eight years, but had been in remission until an inoperable tumor was discovered on his right hip.
After stopping treatment and returning home, Maddox’s request for Christmas cards from around the world went viral. According to the Centre Daily Times, Maddox received cards and packages from all 50 states, six of the seven continents and at least 44 countries.

Hundreds of tributes to the teen have poured in on the Friends of Maddox Facebook page.
“I am so sorry to hear that Maddox has passed,” one woman wrote. “My heart is so broken. He was such an amazing young man. He literally brought so much love to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.”
