Tornado Threat Returning To Pittsburgh Area

Tired of tornado risks in the Pittsburgh region? Then you won't like this National Weather Service forecast.

PITTSBURGH, PA —After at least three tornadoes swept through the Pittsburgh region during a round of severe storms on Wednesday, the twister threat will return to the area over the weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting severe storms and potential tornadoes on Saturday afternoon and evening. A disturbance also is likely to bring damaging wind gusts, large hail and flash flooding.

"Tomorrow will NOT be pleasant," the weather service warned in a social media post. "If you are planning to be outdoors tomorrow, make sure you have a way to get social media notifications."

In the Pittsburgh area, hazardous weather is forecast for Allegheny, Armstrong, Fayette, Greene, Indiana and Westmoreland counties. The severe storm threat will increase as the day goes on.

The weather service confirmed a minimum of at least three tornadoes touched down around Pittsburgh on Wednesday. No injuries were reported, but damage was extensive as the storms toppled many trees.
