2 Pittsburgh Hospitals Are Among PA's Best: U.S. News

PITTSBURGH, PA — Two Pittsburgh hospitals were rated among the top 25 in Pennsylvania in U.S. News & World Report's 2021-22 Best Hospitals rankings released on Tuesday. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside was ranked second in the state, while UPMC Passavant in McCandless was ranked 14th.

U.S. News annually rates the best overall hospitals, as well as those consistently delivering the best care. The goal of the rankings is to help patients choose a hospital based on the specific type of care they need.

To compile the rankings, U.S. News compared more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions including cardiology, neurology, geriatrics, orthopedics and more.

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is nationally ranked in 10 adult specialties specialties and rated high performing in two adult specialties and 14 procedures and conditions. U.S. News noted the

UPMC Presbyterian is a Level I trauma center designed to treat the most serious injuries, and features one of the first artificial heart programs in the country. UPMC’s transplant services has conducted more than 19,500 organ transplant surgeries.

UPMC Passavant was rated high-performing in two adult specialties and eight procedures-conditions.

In the Pittsburgh region, after UPMC Presbyertian Shadyside and UPMC Passavant, St. Clair Hospital in Upper St. Clair was ranked third and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh's North Side.
