WB I-376, Pittsburgh's 'Bathtub', Reopens After Flooding

The roadway between Grant Street and the Fort Pitt Bridge reopened shortly before noon Friday, according to PennDOT.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A portion of westbound Interstate 376 known to many in Pittsburgh as the "bathtub" reopened Friday after flooding earlier this week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation confirmed.

The roadway between Grant Street and the Fort Pitt Bridge reopened shortly before noon Friday, according to PennDOT. It had been closed since Wednesday morning.

Several roads in the Pittsburgh area were closed after storms dropped multiple inches of rain on parts of southwestern Pennsylvania this week. On Thursday, the National Weather Service said more than four inches of rain had been recorded at Philadelphia International Airport over three days.

The Ohio River in downtown Pittsburgh crested at 28.37 feet around 6 a.m. Thursday, more than 3 feet above flood stage, according to the NWS.

Meanwhile, social media reports from across Pittsburgh showed numerous locations flooded including Point State Park, Three Rivers Trail, and Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, the following Pittsburgh roads remained closed due to flooding:

  • Northbound 10th Street bypass. All lanes closed.
  • Southbound 10th Street bypass between Fort Duquesne Boulevard and the Fort Duquesne Bridge. All lanes closed.

Multiple flood warnings were in effect Thursday but have since been canceled, according to the NWS.
