When Will Pittsburgh See Significant Snow?

It's almost mid-January and the Pittsburgh area has not had a substantial snow accumulation this winter.

PITTSBURGH, PA — If you enjoy the atmospheric visual environment of snow in the winter, prepare for some short-term disappointment. The National Weather Service says none is coming in the immediate future.

There will be a chance of light snow this weekend, but the next several weeks are trending toward above normal temperatures.

That doesn't mean tropical temperatures are on the way. The average high in January is 37, while the average low is 21, according to the U.S. Climate Data website. So even above-average temperatures doesn't mean you need to go and buy suntan lotion.

But it does mean that most precipitation that falls within the next two weeks likely will be in the form of rain. At least for the moment, keep your snow shovel and ice melt in the garage.
