Winter Storm Watch Issued For Pittsburgh, Western PA

The winter storm watch for the Pittsburgh area means you should start preparing for a significant snow event.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania from 1 p.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday.

The weather service is predicting 6 to 8 inches of snow in Pittsburgh and southern and eastern Allegheny County. Northeastern Allegheny County communities and Butler County can expect 8 to 12 inches.

The weather service is advising that there is still considerable uncertainty regarding the trek of the storm and thus accumulation totals likely will need to be updated.

The Weather Channel is predicting 5 to 8 inches Sunday night with less than an additional inch on Monday.

State College-based AccuWeather's forecast calls for a total of 4 to 8 inches.

The weather service says the snow will be wet and heavy. Travel during the storm could be extremely difficult and likely will impact the Monday morning commute.

The storm will impact much of the east coast, so air travel could be affected as well.
