WTAE-TV News Anchor Kelly Frey Wins National Award

Frey will be honored for her work in educating viewers during her fight against breast cancer.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The honors keep coming for WTAE-TV anchor Kelly Frey. The latest: A Gracie Award, a national award given to women who have made exemplary contributions in electronic media and affiliates.

Frey won an on-air talent award for helping to educate and inform viewers during her battle with breast cancer. She will be recognized at the Gracie Awards Luncheon on June 27 in New York City.

Named after the late comedienne Gracie Allen, the Gracie Awards are presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation.

Frey, 44, anchors Pittsburgh's Action News 4 This Morning every weekday from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. She has been with WTAE since 2000.

In December, she was named Pittsburgh Magazine’s 2017 Pittsburgher of the Year for her “brave and public stance” in her fight against the disease.

Diagnosed in January 2017, she announced her condition on-air in early March. She then spent the next several months sharing details of her treatment via her WTAE Facebook account.
