Zoom To Open Pittsburgh Research And Development Center
The communications technology company says it will have a significant Pittsburgh operation.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Zoom Video Communications, the company millions of Americans have become familiar with during the coronavirus outbreak via their online meeting service, is coming to Pittsburgh. The company announced Thursday that it plans to open research and development centers here and in Phoenix.
Zoom will immediately begin recruiting software engineers in the two cities, with employees working from home until the offices are built and outbreak-related isolation eases. Zoom said it is looking for space here near Carnegie Mellon University.
“Both Phoenixand Pittsburgh have incredibly well-educated, skilled, and diverse talent pools that are well-positioned to help support Zoom’s ongoing growth and continued success,” Zoom CEO Eric S. Yuan said in a release.

“We plan to hire up to 500 software engineers between these two cities in the next few years, drawing largely on recent graduates of the many local universities. We look forward to expanding our team and seeing what we accomplish together as we continue to build our world-leading video
communications platform with best-in-class reliability, scalability, privacy, and security.”
CMU president Farnam Jahanian said the university is thrilled that Zoom plans to locate near the campus.
“With our visionary faculty and exceptionally talented students, Carnegie Mellon is catalyzing
revolutionary work to accelerate digital transformation across markets and industries, and we look forward to partnering with Zoom to enhance their remarkable momentum in defining the future of virtual interactions," he said.
