Beekeepers to Present at Plymouth Council Meeting Tonight

Scheduled to speak for 15 minutes.

The bees are back in town.

A beekeeping association will make a 15-minute presentation before Plymouth Township Council at their workshop meeting Tuesday night, according to an e-mail sent by the township.

Beekeeping has become a hot topic in Plymouth, ever since the Shaffer family of 1435 Sandwood Drive, Conshohocken, installed two beehives in their backyard earlier this year, prompting neighbors to over allergies, safety, and property values to Plymouth Council.

Council is currently that might regulate what kind of zoning, setbacks, and precautions are necessary to practice beekeeping in the township, which if passed, would be one of the first in the state.

The township has developed an e-mail list to alert all interested parties of updates, and one resident sent a message using the "replay all" feature to voice his displeasure over the upcoming presentation.

"I feel the council is really just going through the motions and is allowing the bee keeping lobby to dictate the agenda," the resident wrote, stating that bees swarmed his neighbor's house over Memorial Day, without specifying where they came from. "I'm shocked…that council is even considering this issue."
