Conshohocken Borough Passes Preliminary Budget

Budget finalization will take place at a special meeting on Nov. 30.

The Conshohocken borough council unanimously voted to pass the 2012 preliminary municipal budget at its meeting on Wednesday night.

As it currently stands, the municipal budget for 2012 is $10,464,400.

Council chair Paul McConnell said that preliminary budget includes an overage of roughly $337,000 and, while that number represented the “lowest [disparity] we’ve had to date,” that the eventual final budget would address that overage.

“Either we are in decent shape or the department heads didn’t want a lot for Christmas,” he said.

McConnell stressed that, while the number was good, the council would still have to find a way to make up the $300,000 difference.

The council plans to hold a special meeting to finalize the budget on Nov. 30. The current budget will be available to the public on Monday, Nov. 21 and will be posted on the township website.

McConnell urged all department heads and members of the public to attend the special meeting.

“Taxpayers, this is your money,” he said. “If you have something to say, [Nov. 30] we would like to hear it.”

The preliminary 2012 budget is down from the 2011 mid-year borough budget, which was $10,553,900.
