Eco-Fest '12: PW's Big Green Showcase

The second-annual event is a collaborative effort between Plymouth, Whitemarsh, Conshohocken and the Colonial School District.

In 2011, Whitemarsh Township and the Colonial School District collaborated on the first-annual Eco-Fest.

The event’s goals, according to Whitemarsh Parks and Recreations director Doug Knauss, were to educate the public on what the two institutions were doing to implement green practices in the area and to highlight local businesses already using green practices.

This year, Eco-Fest is thinking big, Knauss said.

“We’re working with the Fellowship House in Conshohocken and the Plymouth Township Parks and Recreation department on Eco-Fest this year,” he said. “It’s going to be a bigger thing.”

Knauss says he hopes the fest will outdo 2011’s, both in number of attendees and in vendors participating.

“We had about 40 vendors and 100 people in attendance at the first event,” he said. “This we have the west cafeteria and the west gym at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School reserved for this event.”

He hopes the additional room will make way for area businesses to showcase green practices.

“This gets the word out, let’s everyone show off a little, but it also gives residents a chance to see what area businesses are trying to do to help the environment,” he said. “People may not realize how many businesses are already doing things.”

The event, scheduled for March 1, is still accepting vendors.

Eco-Fest 2012 is scheduled for March 1, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The event is free. For more information or information on how to become a vendor at the event, contact Doug Knauss at the Whitemarsh Township Parks and Recreation department.
