Germantown Pike to be Repaved by Labor Day, Six More Roads to Follow

Whitemarsh officials identified seven roadways that will likely be repaved in the near future.

Whitemarsh Township officials announced plans to improve seven roadways at Thursday's Supervisors meeting, and residents will be pleased to know that Germantown Pike is likely the first on the list.

The township has long from PennDOT on when the state would take action on Germantown Pike, but it appears it has arrived.

"For many residents who have been very concerned and bothered with the condition of Germantown Pike, we just received information from PennDOT that the milling and repaving process will be starting very shortly and be done right after Labor Day sometime," supervisor chairman Bob Hart said.

According to officials, the road will be repaved from Joshua Road to Church Road, and the entire process will take four days– two for milling and two for paving. In addition, PennDOT will likely return next summer and install 28 sidewalks ramps along the roadway's intersections, but officials said that project will not affect traffic.

The supervisors also approved a motion to put out to bid the 2012 Road Improvement Program. The annual program identifies roads in need of repair in the township, and pays for their improvement through the state's Municipal Liquid Fuels Program.

According to officials, improvements for the roadways listed below are included in the 2012 bid, and township staff will begin to identify roadways for the 2013 program this fall.

  • The entire length of Marquis Road
  • Full reconstruction of Jones Street from North Lane to 12th Avenue
  • West Valley Green Road
  • Cricket Road from Stenton Avenue to West Valley Green Road
  • Thomas Road from Flourtown Road to Kottler Drive
  • Sheaff Lane from Skippack Pike to Morris Road
