Plymouth Meeting Attorney Gets Five Years for Stealing from Clients

The man took $2.1 million in a 45 month stretch.

Jeffrey Abramowitz, 48, was sentenced to five years in prison on March 9 for stealing a total of $2.1 million dollars from clients, the partner in his Center City law firm, and ultimately family members, according to Philly.com. The Plymouth Meeting man took the funds between March 2005 and December 2008.

A partner in the now-shuttered firm Klevan & Abramowitz, P.C, Abramowitz "spun a web of lies, hoaxes and bogus documents" to deceive his victims, Assistant U.S. Attorney Vineet Gauri said.

He was convicted of stealing legal fees from his firm, filing false taxes for four years to hide the money he’d taken, and even depositing his sister-in-law’s $120,000 mortgage payment in his own bank account.

According to the report, Abramowitz's crimes involved more than 10 victims—several of which had limited English skills or little understanding of the legal process, and so were especially vulnerable.

In addition to prison time, the judge ordered the personal injury attorney to pay $1.6 million in restitution to his victims and $360,405 to the IRS.
