Ugandan LL World Series Team to Play in Plymouth Tuesday

A team of Ugandan Little Leaguers made history last week, as they became the first African team in history to win a game at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

But the Ugandans will have another opponent to face before their American tour is through: the Plymouth Little League 12U tournament team. The two squads are set to go head-to-head in a "good will game," at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, at East Plymouth Valley Park.

Plymouth will likely have their hands full. Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins visited Uganda last winter after seeing an ESPN piece on the team, and played with them not far from the slums of Kampala, the capital city. Rollins was so impressed by the players' abilities that his foundation donated $10,000 to sponsor a "Pearl of Africa" series between Uganda and a team from British Columbia, Canada.

Rollins has been a fan ever since, tweeting congratulations to the team after their historic win in Williamsport, and again last Friday to promote the upcoming appearance in Plymouth Meeting:

"For anyone interested the Uganda LL team is playing @ E. Plymouth Vallery Park, 900 Germantown Pike Plymouth Meeting, Pa 19401 Aug 28th 12pm," Rollins tweeted.

Members of the Plymouth Little League are excited as well, as a message posted on the league's website is promoting the game.

"This is a tremendous honor and great PR for our league and community. Please come out and support our league," the message prompts, adding that a few Phillies might be making an appearance.
