2nd Bridge Shut Down In Montgomery Co. This Month Due To Deterioration
Officials said this bridge, originally built in 1890, was listed in "poor condition" before the latest issues were discovered.
DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP, PA — Another bridge has been shut down in Montgomery County after an inspection found severe deterioration, PennDOT announced.
The bridge carrying Miller Road over the West Branch of Perkiomen Creek, in Douglass Township, will be closed until further notice. The closure stretches from Paper Mill Road to Henry Road.
The bridge, built in 1890, was listed in "poor condition," and had been restricted to a total combined weight of 25 tons in the months leading up to its closure.

Inspectors discovered the deterioration in the wingwall and the arch barrel of the structure.
PennDOT said the shut down would remain in place until bridge engineers "can develop a plan to repair and safely reopen the roadway."

The 14-foot-long, 18-foot-wide bridge carries about 154 vehicles per day.
It's the second bridge shut down due to structural issues this month, after the Evansburg Road bridge in Skippack Township was closed due to what authorities described as "severe bridge scour."
