Pottstown Schools Get $350K Grant For Safety, Violence Prevention

Bike patrols, a middle school behavioral health specialist, surveillance cameras, a youth court program, and more.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pottstown has received a significant grant to help fight crime and reduce violence in its schools and community.

The $350,000 award, given to the borough and Pottstown School District in partnership, is through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Community Violence Prevention/Reduction Grant Program.

The grant will provide a behavioral and mental health specialist for Pottstown Middle School, as well as a "Restorative Justice" youth court program, and trauma awareness training.

"The Borough of Pottstown is eager to begin the implementation of this collaborative project with Pottstown School District and looks forward to seeing positive results," the borough said in a statement.

The funds will also pay for a surveillance cameras, as well as additional foot and bike patrols around both the middle school and high school. That $12,000 per year funding is paid for through the 2021 school year.

The money has been disbursed to the borough, but most of the funding will be used directly for the school district.
