Friday Heat Sets Records, More Triple-Digit Temps Expected Saturday

The extreme heat, which set records Friday, will continue Saturday, with a heat advisory in place through 7 p.m. across the Philadelphia region.

The recent heat has broken records: Friday was the first September day on record with an above-80 temperature for the entire 24-hour period, NBC10 reports. In fact, it was above 80 degrees for 41 straight hours, beginning Thursday morning.

At midnight on Friday, it was 82 degrees in Philadelphia and didn't go under 80 until nearly 3 a.m., according to the NWS temperature history.

Additionally, with high temperatures reaching 96, it was the hottest Sept. 9 on record, NBC 10 reports.

According to a NWS heat advisory, the excessive heat will continue throughout the day but cooler weather is expected Sunday.

"The heat will lead to an increased risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for those who work outside or those without air conditioning," the NWS warned.

Here is the forecast:

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 100. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. South wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers before 10am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. North wind 5 to 8 mph.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
