The work is part of a project to improve travel and safety on a three-mile section of City Avenue/U.S. 1 between Interstate 76 and Lancaster Avenue/U.S. Route 30, by installing adaptive traffic signals to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety along the corridor. The project is scheduled to finish in November 2017.

PennDOT’s contractor, Armor & Sons Electric Inc., of Langhorne, will upgrade and fully modernize 17 signalized intersections along City Avenue/U.S. 1 with a new wireless communication system to better accommodate traffic flow. The improvements also include the installation of new pedestrian push buttons, traffic signal heads, pavement markings, overhead street signs, and 74 new ADA curb ramps.

In addition to installing adaptive traffic signals, Armor & Sons will perform various other roadway improvements on City Avenue/U.S. 1, including a new left turn and lane configurations at Cardinal Avenue to improve traffic and safety at that intersection.
