Slight Increase in Radnor Population Reported

Census data indicates more living in township in 2010.

Radnor's population increased by more than 650 people between 2000 and 2010, according to data released Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The overall township population is listed at 31,531 up from 30,878 in 2000.

Residents increased in most minority populations, while fewer white residents were reported in 2010. According to the data, the Asian population increased the most, as 734 more residents lived in Radnor compared to 2000.

In Delaware County, the population rose 1.5 percent, while in Pennsylvania it rose 3.4 percent.

Matt Baumann, director of community development for Radnor, said that the 653-person growth was larger than he expected.

"I do know that during this 10-year span there were not many large-scale subdivisions built.  There were more of the smaller-scale land development patterns," he said.

"Perhaps a great deal of this growth might be attributable to students," Baumann opined. "The universities in the township have grown in population and I would suspect that this 2.1% increase has a lot to do with that."
