Amtrak Train Hit By Unknown Object In Philly, Reports Say

One passenger described the gouge in the window as a "bullet hole."

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- An unknown object struck an Amtrak Acela train as it made its way through Philadelphia Sunday, leaving a hole it at least one window, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, not far from where an Amtrak train derailed off the tracks last May, killing eight and injuring hundreds.

The object created a pock mark-shaped hole in the window at about 7 a.m. as the Acela Express 2222 made its way north from Washington D.C. to New York City.

The train was carrying 201 passengers when the object hit, Amtrak said.

NBC 10 reported that a passenger took a picture of something that looked like a bullet hole in the window, but Amtrak did not confirm this was the same hole which struck Acela Express 2222.

The incident occurred just as Amtrak was preparing to release a major update on investigation into the May 2015 crash.
