Auditions THE FOURTH WALL by A.R. Gurney at Old Academy Players

On Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11 am, auditions for THE FOURTH WALL, by renowned American playwright, novelist, and academic A.R. Gurney, will be held at the Old Academy Players [www.oldacademyplayers.org], 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19129. Director Annie Hnatko [MusicalsAtOldAcademy@gmail.com] seeks 2 men and 2 women for this November 2016 production. Performance dates are: November 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, and 20. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 8 pm and Sunday matinées are at 2 pm.

Those auditioning will be asked to perform a cold reading from the script. Since characters must be capable of singing several first-rate songs by Cole Porter, those auditioning will be asked to prepare 16-32 measures of an American standard, preferably by Cole Porter. Rehearsals will begin in early August.

Characters:

Peggy (40-50) normally has impeccable taste, but falls into a delusion that her living room is a theater stage.

Roger (40-50), Peggy’s husband, charming but bewildered, is desperate to help his wife from becoming obsessed with her fantasy.

Julia (50-60), friend of Peggy and Roger, is a sharp-tongued, flirtatious, martini swilling older woman. This character must have superb comic timing.

Floyd (30-40) is a theatre teacher who encourages Peggy to embrace the illusion so she can connect with her feelings.

Old Academy Players, a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community theater in East Falls (Philadelphia), the urban village on the Schuylkill River. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players, providing continuous community theater since 1923, featured the acting debuts of both Grace Kelly and Robert Prosky.
