'Bushwacking' Hike In Wissahickon Aims To Explore Uncharted Territory

The Wissahickon Valley is full of surprises.

MANAYUNK, PA - A group backpacking and bushwacking hike will take place in the Wissahickon this weekend.

The event is organized by the Friends of the Wissahickon and will be led by Gerry Schweiger.

Participants are asked to meet at Cedars House on Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive. Look for a gray Toyota Corolla.

We will hike the Andorra Meadow and explore the old seldom used Bells Mill Trail. This walk will take hikers through an area with lots of briers, brambles, fallen trees, and scree. Hikers should wear leather gloves or thorn resistant sturdy gloves. Difficulty: challenging. Meet at Cedars House, Northwestern Ave. and Forbidden Drive.

Unless otherwise noted hikes use rocky rugged trails that may be wet, slippery, or steep. Please wear sturdy, protective shoes or boots and bring water /snacks if you want them. Children over 8 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. In general walks are cancelled in the event of rain. Reservations are not required but are recommended for communication in the event of cancellation due to inclement weather.
