Ex Philly Cop Pleads Guilty To Animal Cruelty Charge

PHILADELPHIA – A former Philadelphia Police officer has pleaded guilty to charges filed after he left a dog for dead in a garbage bag in Wissahickon Valley Park back in November 2016, according to court records.
Michael Long, 34, of Philadelphia, entered a guilty plea to an animal cruelty charge in court on March 9, documents show. Other charges against Long were dismissed, records show.
Judge Kai Scott ordered Long to a year of probation and barred him from owning a dog, records show.

The dog, named Cranberry, was found in a trash bag in the park by a good samaritan on a hike with their dog on Nov. 23, the Pennsylvania SPCA said.
Cranberry made a full recovery and has a new family, with whom she has been living with since December 2017, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
