Love Your Park - 2019 McMichael Park

McMichael Park Attracts... 34 Worker Bees, Some Butterflies and Four Legged Furry Friends!

On May 11th, Love Your Park -2019 in McMichael Park was ready to celebrate 90 years of open green space. A wonderful turn out of volunteers took to the park equipped with shovels and pitchforks to plant the Friends anniversary "Redwood" tree. The Turtle was feeling the love when the group realized that another tree was delivered in remembrance of Linda Norris's husband Eddie. A beautiful "Cherry Blossom" was delivered by Donna Norris that morning and volunteers were ready to plant that as well. Thirty five neighbors and friends including Herb Henze with his trusty tractor, turned, weeded and mulched tree pits and garden beds. Entrance beds were cleaned and flats of flowers were planted. Branches were stockpiled along the park perimeter. Trees were pruned. Debris was picked up and bagged. 70 brown bags of debris were filled. 3 yards of mulch was spread. 16 tree pits were maintained. 50 soft pretzels were consumed. And there was time to have your face painted as a butterfly which the Brevoort girls felt went well with the wings they created. Portrait photographs of volunteers were taken with Morton McMichael. Nice to have Deborah Carn join us from State Representative Rosita Youngbloods office too. Six lovable dogs came with their rescue team with a chance to foster or adopt. Street Tails, ACCT and PAWS joined the Friends for the Love Your Park day. Mike Andrews commented that the furry friends really benefitted from being out of the shelter, enjoying the green space and meeting people in McMichael Park. The morning was perfect. Love Your Park is always special as it gets neighbors together both working and enjoying friendships in our treasured and beloved park.
